Christmas is a great time of year according to kids. No school for them, unlimited hours of fun and excitement in the lead up to Christmas, and of course the food they can indulge themselves on.

Kids love to decorate the house with decorations. In the story I am currently reading, the mum decided to decorate the fireplace mantle with big wooden letters spelling out “joy”. They painted the letters so they looked like candy canes and then glued little bells into the centre of the “o”.

Another thing they did was to wrap all the photo frames in the house with wrapping paper and made them look like Christmas presents. Taped ribbon and little bells went onto the wrapping paper creating a great effect. The children like this one the most as it remind of them of all the presents they will be getting on Christmas morning.

Decorations I used to do with my family as a kid were great as well. I remember all making angles to put on top of the tree together, with cardboard, fabric and a lot of fun. It really takes you back if you have children and you help them to decorate.

Try doing some Christmas treasure hunts using decorations as clues. At the end of it have a prize for instance a chocolate Santa Claus or a small present. This will get the children working together if you have more than 1, or if can prove to be some great alone time with you and your child.

Whatever you do this Christmas just remember at the end of the day it’s a holiday so you should try to enjoy it as much as you can. Relax, have a few drinks, eat lavishly and just try to have a good time. If something’s giving you stress trying to do, then just forget it, its not worth having a stressful Christmas just to try and sort out a particular decoration.
